SC Freiburg and Pál Dárdai at home

The weekend of match day 21 finds Berlin under clear blue skies and sun albeit with a little haze on the morning of the game.

Saturday was a glorious sunny day – almost like early spring with snowdrops out in the Tiergarten.

The game against SC Freiburg is the first game at the Olympiastadion for the new interim coach Pál Dárdai.  Hopes are high that he can continue winning after last week in Mainz.  Those hopes include wanting to see Valentin Stocker making another major contribution and perhaps the returning Salomon Kalou finally making his mark.  We will soon see how Pál can motivate and organise his squad in front of a home crowd.

Well, it remained a fine sunny day but, things could have turned out better!  Here are a few photos to give you a flavour of the afternoon
If you are looking at just the statistics Hertha did really well (SCF in brackets) . . .

- Completed passes 340 (213)
- Possession 55% (45%)
- Shots 11 (8)
- Crosses 12 (1)
- Corners 2 (1)
- Offsides 2 (4)

But statistics don't win games . . two defensive lapses and bang.  All three points heading south to Freiburg!

After seeing the highlights I'd like to suggest a couple of things for training sessions. Firstly, covering the back post for corners but also, and this is a little more tricky, staying on your feet when the opposition keeper half pulls you back /?half strangles you.
On a positive note, although there was only 37,617 people in the ground the Hertha faithful were in fine voice for most of the match. However not all were impressed when the team did not go to the home supporters after the match but rather went straight down the tunnel.  Pál Dárdai later apologised via social media saying he wanted to "talk" to the team immediately after the game and that was his decision and his alone. To be fair, I suspect he had a few things to say after this game! Fans would be harsh to blame the team for disappearing under the circumstances. Onwards and upwards with Hertha away in Wolfsburg in match day 22.

On a positive note, the support at the start was great!
