Hertha faces a number of pre-season friendlies / training games over the summer break this year. I have not been there to see of these to be honest but good old Hertha TV have published the highlights on YouTube. So without further ado - for your viewing pleasure . . . . . .

After a difficult season Hertha invited fans to attend the first training session in the preparation for the 2015/16 season on Sunday the 28th of June at Schenckendorffplatz. The weather was gloriously warm with sun and just a few white clouds scattered over the blue skies. Perhaps this added to the popularity of the event as around 2000 fans attended to see their team train (including a brief training game) and have a look at the newly renovated Fan Shop in the Hertha offices. Hertha expected fans to come as the provided a van where you could buy merchandise, a barbecue and importantly four temporary toilets! Given the sheer number of fans these limited facilities were stretched pretty thin and Hertha were the victims of their own success with fans two or three deep around the ground and long queues for bratwurst! At the training were twenty one field players and four goalkeepers who were greeted by friendly applause and a thousand camera clicks by the fans at the training ground. They were not however sporting the new season’s shirts as it appears they were not ready along with the missing shirt sponsor who, as far as I am aware has yet to be secured. Among the players present were four of last season’s regulars: Thomas Kraft, Marvin Plattenhardt, Sebastian Langkamp and Roy Beerens. Also Sami Allagui and Fabian Holland were back in Berlin again for the session. Fabian will probably only remain for a short while as negotiations are still in progress with newly promoted Darmstadt 98. The only really new addition in the season’s opening training session was Mitchell Weiser, who arrived on a free transfer from FC Bayern München. There were a number of players missing from the training including some on International duty such as John Anthony Brooks who will be at the Gold Cup in the United States. Some of the other team members who were absent from being on the long term injury list were: Tolga Cigerci, Julian Schieber and Anis Ben-Hatira. Having said this Julian Schieber did make an appearance in civvies which was appreciated. I’m not sure where Salomon Kalou was although I thought I remembered seeing tweets about him being in New York city – I may have been wrong about that though. . . Overall it was a great afternoon out and provided an opportunity for fans to keep in touch with their club.
