Hertha on holiday so, a trip to Wembley!

With Hertha in their summer break my mind wandered once again and this time it took my legs with it.  We splashed out on some tickets to see England play Peru up at Wembley.  They were not exactly cheap but at least we have a friendly floor to sleep on when we're in town!

I took Friday afternoon off work but I couldn't cope with the drive on a Friday afternoon.  So we jumped on the train up to London armed with an enormous mug of coffee and cake from the shop around the corner.

The journey was smooth and the underground got us there with even a seat for some of the length of the Jubilee line.  Quite a result on a late Friday afternoon in London!

I wont go on about the game as this has already been done long before my fingers stroked the keys.  The atmosphere was pretty good and there was a good bit of support for the National Team.  There was an attempt at a simple Choreo forming two crosses of St George by holing up a "clapper" that was stick into everyone's seat before the match.

As it turned out those clappers were put to use later on in the match as well.  They rained down onto the pitch in the form of "paper aeroplanes".  The flights of these improvised aircraft often caused larger cheers than the match itself.  I can't help feeling that this, and the Mexican waves, says something about the quality of the match at times not to mention the attention people were paying to it (or not).

The most notable of these flights involved an epic flight from the upper stands to strike (albeit lightly) one of the Peruvian players from behind catching him by surprise.  See the you tube video below
A took al a few snaps with my phone on the way in and before the match - take them in if you like.

We had a great evening but it might be a while before we venture up to Wembley again.  And now, my mind will shortly be on the wander again - it will soon be off to the heat of Brazil.  Bring it on!

The England team were announced as: Hart, Walker, Smalling, Jagielka, Cole, Gerrard (Captain), Cleverley, Townsend, Rooney, Lallana and Sturridge.
For Germany (I think):

Roman Weidenfeller (BVB),
Benedikt Höwedes (Schalke),
Per Mertesacker (Arsenal),
Mats Hummels (BVB),
Marcel Schmelzer (BVB),
Toni Kroos (Bayern),
Sven Bender (BVB),
Sidney Sam (Leverkusen),
Julian Draxler (Schalke),
Marco Reus (BVB),
Max Kruse (Mönchengladbach).

If this is correct, it looks like the Bayern squad are having a nice rest apart from Toni Kroos. Not so for BVB who have five players in Germany's starting eleven. That rest could be critical when the two teams play in the Bundesliga just four days after the match.

Too tired and busy during the week to update my blog, even on my phone!  Well the team didn't look quite like that but Mats Hummels went of injured and BVB anded up loosing 3:0.  Make of that what you will.
