With Hertha in their summer break my mind wandered once again and this time it took my legs with it. We splashed out on some tickets to see England play Peru up at Wembley. They were not exactly cheap but at least we have a friendly floor to sleep on when we're in town! I took Friday afternoon off work but I couldn't cope with the drive on a Friday afternoon. So we jumped on the train up to London armed with an enormous mug of coffee and cake from the shop around the corner. The journey was smooth and the underground got us there with even a seat for some of the length of the Jubilee line. Quite a result on a late Friday afternoon in London! |
As it turned out those clappers were put to use later on in the match as well. They rained down onto the pitch in the form of "paper aeroplanes". The flights of these improvised aircraft often caused larger cheers than the match itself. I can't help feeling that this, and the Mexican waves, says something about the quality of the match at times not to mention the attention people were paying to it (or not).
The most notable of these flights involved an epic flight from the upper stands to strike (albeit lightly) one of the Peruvian players from behind catching him by surprise. See the you tube video below
We had a great evening but it might be a while before we venture up to Wembley again. And now, my mind will shortly be on the wander again - it will soon be off to the heat of Brazil. Bring it on!
