Naturally I had researched German bars in Playa de las Americas before leaving and came across the Bar Berlin which had pretty good reviews. Check it out on trip advisor if you are interested – Bar Berlin
It’s not the easiest of bars to find (unless you are looking for it) as it is up above the promenade with access through narrow steps that take you up to the bar. There are signs but they are not exactly “in your face”. The German flag flying on one corner of the terrace may be a useful landmark for visiting Hertha fans. Once there however the staff were friendly and they have an English language menu for those that need it. The food we had there was superb and it was nice sitting on the terrace looking down over the beach in the sun. However, perhaps the most important thing was that it had five flat screens and a projector all showing the afternoons Bundesliga games! It’s worth mentioning when we were there they showed the “Samstags-Konferenz” on all six screens. This show flips between all of the matches that are being played that afternoon showing the key points, including goals in all of the matches.
We were picked up from the airport by friends who were already in Tenerife and had a hire car. We went to a supermarket to pick up essential supplies (mostly in bottles) and then dropped off our gear at our accommodation. We then legged it along the beach to Bar Berlin and set up camp ready for the Hertha match. | |
We came back down to earth when we got back to the UK and managed to see most of the away game against VfL Wolfsburg. Although in my opinion Hertha were the better team for most of the match they managed to concede two goals – one a break away counter and an error from Marvin leaving the offside trap open. The second was a penalty following a wayward leg from Lusti. There were some chances for Hertha from Haraguchi and a bicycle kick from Ibisevic which was a joy to see from a Hertha player. There was also decent shouts for Hertha being awarded two penalties they were not given so the Old Lady set off back to Berlin empty handed. Life is not always fair but hey, onwards and upwards! Next stop the Olympiastadion and visiting 1. FC Koln.
