Bundesliga 31. Spieltag - FC Augsburg

Just four matches to go in the 2013/14 Bundesliga season and Hertha are on 37 points, ten points above the playoff spot. If the "Old Lady" were to be able to get three points away in Augsburg survival would be a certainty no matter what the teams below achieve. That's a bit if a tall order given recent form but I always live in hope.

It appeared, before the match that Fabian Lustenburger was back in the squad for the match which would have been good news for the 26 year old Hertha captain. I was hoping it was good news for Hertha's fans as well! But, unfortunately Fabian hurt himself in warming up and wasn't able to play.

Adrian Ramos is still out but I guess we're going to have to get used to playing without him soon enough so why not now I guess. It gives a chance for Sami and Sandro to show us what they can do.

Well the match ended in a 0:0 draw. Hertha only had 43% of the possession but but managed a total of thirteen shots (three more than FC Augsburg) but none found their way into the back of the net. The woodwork played a part in all of this but our strikers just couldn't finish it off.

Hertha did pick up an away point and, with Hoffenheim losing on the same day, crept ever so slightly closer to 9th place in the table.

The bottom of the table is perhaps starting to shape now. Braunschweig lost 0:2 to Bayern and in a key match for both sides the HSV dinosaurs went down 1:3 to Wolfsburg leaving them rooted in that playoff spot. Stuttgart and Nürnberg play on Easter Sunday against Schalke and Leverkusen respectively. A win for Stuttgart could lift them out of trouble but a loss, with a win for Nürnberg, and they could be cast into the pit!

As it turned out Nurnberg, perhaps not unexpectedly, did not win and went down 1:4 against Leverkusen and are starting to look doomed.  Stuttgart winning at home against Schalke lifts them four points clear of the playoff spot with just nine points to play for.

The loss at Nürnberg makes it a mathematical certainty that the Old Lady will be playing Bundesliga football next season.  Ha Ho He !
