Yet another visitor arrives at the Olympiastadion this weekend as Hoffenheim test Hertha's poor home form in the Rückrunde. I don't want to think about that form. Sadly, these days I only seam to go to the stadium to see Hertha draw at best. Having said this, "hope springs eternal" and there is always the next match!
All sorts of stuff has popped up in the press this week. Apparently Ramos has been sold to Dortmund for €10 million - again! No confirmation from either club so it's best not to take that one too seriously! Also it has been reported that Sebastian Langkamp hurt his shoulder in the Schalke match but scans show it's not too bad and he may still play over the weekend.!
I'm in Berlin for a very long weekend and will naturally be going to the match. I'm hoping the weather will be kind to us over the weekend but there were a few showers on Friday, we'll see.
Friday evening saw 29. Spieltag starting with a bit of a bombshell with Hamburg SV beating Leverkusen at home and giving their home fans a glimmer of hope.
Temporarily at least, they are now out of the drop zone which leaves the bottom of the table on a knife edge. Some key relegation matches coming up thus weekend - notably the one where VfB Stuttgart host SC Freiburg and Eintracht Braunschweig meet Hannover 96. Wins for Stuttgart and Braunschweig could see the bottom of the table getting even tighter - and, as it turns out, that's exactly what happened! |
With Hertha it's not going to be easy. Hoffenheim may be made of plastic but they have three players that have scored over ten goals. As has been said many times Hertha are perhaps too dependant on goals either scored by or made by Adrian Ramos. The next most prolific scorer being Sami Allagui on seven goals or, if you prefer, 0.25 goals per game. If we are to end this season with a flourish our midfield will need to step up and be far more clinical in front of the goal as well as our defense start plugging those gaps. Simple . . . ( I wish!)
That match itself was a nerve wracking business ending in a 1:1 draw. Goals from first Sami Allagui and then, sadly, from Eugen Polanski for Hoffenheim.
The TSG keeper was carried of with what later was diagnosed with a broken shin bone after clattering into Adrian Ramos just outside the box. Adrian had an MRI on Monday which showed he had developed a "haemotoma" in his thigh muscle which I gather is better than the torn muscle they originally thought he had.
The last kick of the game in injury time was a bolt of a shot from Hoffenheim matched by a cracking save from Thomas Kraft. What a player he is for Hertha - top notch! Here are some of his thoughts on the Bundesliga site - "We had chances to win it"
Well point more point to the total and creeping towards the end of the season. Ten points clear of the drop zone with 15 points to play for. . . the next match I'll attend will be the end of the season sell out against Dortmund . . bring it on!
A few photos from the match . . .
